At the start of Mr. Hopp's Playhouse 2, Esther encounters black objects in a strange dream. She must pass through these objects toward the end of the level before she encounters a terrifying black entity and flees. However, she is unable to escape in time. When she realized she was being burned, the black arm continued to grow until she opened her eyes. At that moment, the bizarre events at the orphanage only just begin. When Esther’s friends Isaac and Molly are talking, Miss Beverly interrupts them to tell them there’s something they should pay attention to. The crate she brought into the conversation contained toys, and Esther became suspicious of the rabbit-shaped toy that resembled the figure from her dream. She chose the tiger and panda toys, which caused Molly to declare a panda toy Mr., and Esther names the rabbit toy Herbies. It's normal for her to have dreams similar to the beginning of the game.

Esther experienced a dream in which elements normally found in an orphanage returned to her first level. This caused her to realize that the strange phenomena represented a significant threat to her well-being. In addition, she noticed frightening black figures following her through the streets of her dream.
